Alamance Battleground State Historical Site

This North Carolina State Historic Site commemorates the famous pre-Revolutionary battle of May 16, 1771 when Royal Governor William Tryon led the North Carolina militia against the Regulators. When you visit the site you may view the field of battle with its granite monument & map marker with brief history of battle. An audio-visual presentation is available of the historical event is shown in the visitor center. There is also a log dwelling on grounds, the 1780 Allen house, refurbished with orginial furnishings.

No admission fees. Donations are accepted.

This imposing three story stone, neo-classic revival building is located on a hexagonal plot in the center of Graham's commercial district. Designed in 1924, the structure replaced the original brick courthouse built in 1849.

The historic depot was renovated as part of Burlington's Centennial celebration in 1993 and is used as a multipurpose recreation facility. On the walls are murals depicting Burlington from 1893 to 1993.

Dentzel Menagerie Carousel

Burlington's restored 1910 Dentzel Menegerie Carousel is the centerpeice of the 76-acre City Park. The carousel has 46 hand-carved animals. It is one of only 12 Dentzel Menagerie carousels remaining in the United States. The Dentzel carvers were famous for their realism and attention to detail. The horses have real horse-hair tails and all the animals have shiny, round glass eyes. No two animals are alike.

The BMOC is a major attraction for tourists from all over the United States. Thousands of tourists, literally bus loads) each year venture to Burlington, North Carolina to shop for bargains in an Outlet setting. The outlets contain 75+ stores selling everything from textile products, jewelry, sporting goods, clothing and shoes.

Historic Snow Camp

The historic town of Snow Camp includes several historic landmarks, seasonal activities and an amphitheatre. The outdoor drama repertory theater presents two major prouctions each summer: "The Sword of Peace," a dramatic historical portrayal of the American Revolution and the struggle of the Quakers; and "Pathway to Freedom," which tells the story of the Quakers who assisted the fugitives of the Underground Railroad before the Civil War.

Alamance County Historical Museum

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this two-story structure was the home of textile pioneer E.M. Holt. The Holt home was completely remodeled by L. Banks Holt in the popular "Italiante Revival style after the Civil War. The 19th century house-museum is now furnished with authentic pieces of the period. The upper floor is devoted to rotating & temporary exhibits dealing with aspects of local history, including quilts, Native American artifacts, pottery, antique clothing, antique toys & 19th century military artifacts.

Sesquicentennial Park

This park commemorates Alamance County's 105th birthday, which was celebrated on April 24, 1999. The 2,500 square foot park has a garden, an arbor for vines, park benches, brick walls and a 400 pound bell which sat atop the original courthouse in Graham. The park was funded by efforts of the Sesquicentennial Committee, the county and the City of Graham.

A 414-acre park of gently rolling terrain, the name comes from the abundance of cedar trees and rock outcroppings. The park is a refuge for wildlife and those wishing to study it. The park offers nature study, various trail systems, fishing, picnicking, disc golf, volleyball, basketball, horseshoe courts and camping.


Battle of Clapp's Mill Maker

This memorial commemorating the Battle of Clapp's Mill, a Revolutionary War battle, consists of eight bronze plaques seated in granite slabs forming a circle around a replica grist stone. The battle occurred on March 2, 1781, two weeks prior to the Battle of Guilford Courthouse.


Glencoe Mill Village

This village consists of a cotton mill complex and associated worker tenement community built on a 105-acre site along the Haw River between 1880 and 1882. The village is currently under restoration and has been nominated as a National Historical Landmark. Visitors can tour by car.


Graham Historical Museum

The Graham Historical Museum features historic fire trucks and fire fighting equipment. The town hall has local pottery, weapons, military artifacts and other historical pieces that are related to the history of the citizens of Graham. The museum is operated by the Graham Historical society and is open to the public.
