New residents of North Carolina have 30 days after establishing permanent residency to obtain their driver's license.

Applicants must pass a written exam and an eye exam. When you are issued a North Carolina license, the driver's license from your prior state of residence must be surrendered to the Driver's License Examiner.

Driver's License may be obtained at State Highway Patrol Station.

Tags and Registration

Title and valid registration card from the prior state and residence. If your title is held by a lien holder, you must provide the lien holder's name and address.

Registration must be renewed annually
